Towards energy efficient retrofitting in the private housing sector
Socio-economic barriers and drivers to energy efficient refurbishment in the private residential sector.
How the refurbishment market in the private residential sector can be transformed into an energy efficiency market? To answer this question, Alphéeis has carried out, with the support of ADEME and six other partners, a two-year study aiming at identifying the factors that can contribute to the deployment of such an energy efficient refurbishment market (May 2009 – January 2011).
Five countries have been selected as filed studies: Germany, Switzerland, France, Spain and Italy.
The energy refurbishment market of each country has first been observed and analyzed through literature review. An on-field study, including 59 face-to-face interviews, was then carried out to analyze the processes of 28 energy efficient refurbishment projects.
The study enabled to build a common knowledge about the factors that contribute to energy efficient refurbishment of housings, and revealed important differences depending on the type of housing (detached houses, collective housings belonging to one-single owner and collective housings held in co-ownership).
The main findings of the study are presented in French on our website (in the documents section) and on ADEME’s website. They will be presented at the ECEEE 2011 Summer Study Conference held in Southern France in June 2011.
The partners of this study include : the French company EDF (French utility company) and five thermal design companies: Pouget Consultants (France), En+ (Switzerland), Transsolar (Germany), EfiBau (Spain) and Studio Cafiero (Italy).
