How inhabitants of low-energy consumption individual houses appreciate the comfort of living and how their behaviours impact the energy consumed? These are the two questions Alphéeis investigate for an international energy provider. To answer them, a two year on-field study will be carried out on a panel of low energy consumption houses, involving interviews with the occupiers and monitoring of their energy consumption.

By placing the occupier at the very centre of the attention, this study will help understand the differences between the calculated and measured energy consumptions and will provide precious information on how the occupiers appreciate the quality of living in such houses and the equipments in place.

Contact: Aurélie Goater
july 25th, 2011

context

Faced with the challenges that business stakeholders must address today and even tomorrow, to meet requirements of sustainable development and energy efficiency in the construction industry, training is a vital strategic factor to enable the successful mutation being undertaken by the building industry.

It is then essential to design of suitable training offering to meet these growing needs, and which answer the ambitious aims displayed in France by the ”Grenelle of the Environment” and in Europe under the “Climate and Energy directive”.

Training will indeed support both the mutation of existing employees’ skills and enable new work capabilities to:
- to design energy efficient and eco-friendly buildings
- to manage new building projects or renovations by training contractors and renovators
- to coordinate and lead the work up to commissioning
- to measure, verify and guarantee the energy performance of buildings
- to educate users of these buildings to a virtuous environmentally friendly behaviour, without which the objectives of reducing greenhouse gas emissions’ effects will not be met.

Our positioning

Alphéeis has been for many years providing its expertise in the fields of renewable energy and energy efficiency in buildings, serving institutional, professional federations and training centres, in the design and implementation of training modules, conducting training sessions and designing e-learning courses.

Alphéeis is continually seeking to strengthen its expertise in the training area and is investing heavily in the field of elearning, offering a new training approach adapted to the demands of businesses.
The French Agency for Environment and Energy (ADEME) is currently working together with the French Ministry in charge of Sustainable Development on a definition of what should be a positive energy building. Indeed, no official definition exists yet whereas more and more buildings are announced energy positive.

To support this work, the ADEME has asked Alpheeis to carry out a detailed observation of current French zero energy buildings, to get more insight on which energy consuming activities are currently addressed by the projects, how the energy production is managed, and which type of energy monitoring is implemented on the projects (June 2010 – June 2011).

When the study ends, the ADEME will have a detailed database of the buildings built in France pursuing the objective of being energy positive.
